How to install Chrome extensions in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge is built on the same engine as Chrome, so almost every Chrome extension works in it. You install them straight from the Chrome Web Store after allowing it once.

Steps

  1. In Edge, open the Chrome Web Store and go to the extension you want.
  2. Edge shows a bar at the top: “You can now add extensions from the Chrome Web Store to Microsoft Edge”. Click Allow extensions from other stores, then Allow.
  3. Click Add to Chrome on the extension’s page (the button keeps its Chrome name), then Add extension.
  4. Find it under the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar. Click the pin to keep it visible.

Try it with Peekly

Peekly installs this way. After that, Bing and Google results show preview cards, and resting on any link opens the page on top of the one you’re on.

If something doesn’t work

A few extensions that depend on Google sign-in features don’t work in Edge. If an extension misbehaves, open edge://extensions, switch it off and on again, and reload the page.

Questions people ask

Can Edge use Chrome extensions?
Yes. Allow extensions from other stores when Edge asks, then install them from the Chrome Web Store as you would in Chrome.
Is it safe to install Chrome extensions in Edge?
It's as safe as installing them in Chrome. Stick to well-reviewed extensions and check what permissions they ask for.
